Yero Urges Residents To Be Law Abiding Kaduna State governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has called on the people of Kafanchan in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State to remain calm and law abiding as government is doing all within its powers to contain the breach of security in the area. A statement from the governor’s spokesman, Ahmed Maiyaki siaid the governor has already directed security agencies in the state to take necessary actions at returning peace and normalcy to the area following skirmishes over misunderstanding among the people. While warning trouble makers to desist from their devilish plots to plunge the state into confusion, Governor Yero said “As a responsible Government, we shall not shirk our Constitutional duty of protecting the lives and property of the entire people of Kaduna State, no matter what it will take.” He therefore assured the people of Kafanchan and indeed the entire people of Kaduna State that Government is already investigating the root cause of the conflict and will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found culpable, irrespective of their status in the society. Governor Yero however commiserated with victims of the crisis and thanked people of the state for their continuous support to his administration in its unrelenting efforts at building lasting peace and unity among the diverse people of the state. Meanwhile, a Kaduna based non-governmental organisation known as Center for Development and Rights Advocacy (CEDRA) has appealed to the federal government to immediately declare state of emergency in Southern Kaduna with the hope of ending the killings in the area. The group in a statement signed by a University lecturer, Dr. John Danfulani said, “on thursday Kafanchan indigenous people of Southern Kaduna and Hausa-Fulani settlers clash. Report reaching us shows that lives have been lost. Before yesterday night’s anarchy, early signs of coming anarchy were clear but nothing was done to forestall it. Albeit yesterday’s killings and 24 hours curfew imposed in the town.” According to the group, “the Kafanchan mayhem along with others, are justifying our earlier call for a declaration of a state of emergency in Southern Kaduna area of the State. Because there are evidences of gross incompetence in administrative and physical management of security in the area. It is now clear; no security arrangement other than total declaration of State of Emergency can nip in the bud this anomie.”
