Yes UHS is the most renowned institution and Has been declared No. 1 Public sector medical university by Higher Education Commission. Yes I have read that endless times. Students sit for their professional exams. But at what price? Is suicide a fair price to pay for these exams? Why do the teachers, parents and peers do not support a student who has failed? Why is it a norm to embarrass students who fail, rather than encouraging them to do better, let alone help them? If a student fails, it is not his fault. It is the teacher’s fault that he/she did not teach him well. The exams are designed more to fail the students rather than testing them in all areas. If a child does not study, why don’t the teachers pay attention to them and encourage them. I have seen some parents slapping their children when they fail in exam. Is that fair? Tonight, a young medical student of QAMC, Bahawalpur, became an ‘AN HERO’. What did his peers do before he took this step? What other than making fun of him did they do? Why didn’t anyone see that he was depressed? It wasn’t suicide. It was a planned murder. No suicide. Shocking as the news is, what more shocking is that he wasn’t the first student who did a suicide because of Exam Stress. Yet we look away. Yet we don’t do anything. We let them go away. Rather, we force them to go away. I am sick of parents forcing their children into fields they don’t like. I am sick of friends making fun of the failing student. I am sick of teachers ignoring the failing students. Was a failed exam worth a life? He could have lived some 6 or 7 more decades of his life. And it was taken away. A generation was taken away. Why don’t we understand? Why don’t we care about others around us? Why don’t we help other depressed students? Why dont we take a step now, before someone else does the same? Why don’t we prevent deaths like this. What are doctors useful for if not preventing deaths? What is a man useful for if not helping others? Tonight no one could relieve him from his depression. No one acted like a man today. All of us have taken his life away. All of us. Let’s promise here today to serve mankind, To be a good friend. A good parent a good teacher and a good human being. Let us become the change we wish to see, Starting right here, right now. LETS HEAL.
