Yes, we were there. Yes, it happened when we were in college! Something that I plan to tell future generations. Yes, I see the hypocrisy that lies rampant in this state, I see a time not unlike the times of Fascism or Nazism of the last century. It really amazes me how much a premier educational institute is crippled by petty state politics. Perhaps it is time when we drop the elite tag from Jadavpur University. So, this is what it all boils down to. Protests throughout India and abroad, and the result is a permanent reinstatement of our respected Vice Chancellor. Yes, it hurts. It hurts to see how politics can cripple a tier-one institution......how a decision may seem like an anathema for the combined efforts of thousands of students, and teachers! It hurts to know that this is not the Jadavpur University I knew when I entered the hallowed portals of this institute. This decision makes a mockery out of the efforts of countless students and respected professors, making us seem like jesters. Maybe we are, who knows? Just that, even though I will pass out next year........I will remain unhappy knowing that this is not the university that played a crucial, deterministic role in Indias freedom struggle. JU, you have changed your true colors, be it on buildings or otherwise, but time shall always remember you as the JU that was before it changed its hues. It is that JU that shall forever be remembered in time, and it is that JU which we will miss, for it is that JU which was not tarnished by the ugly face of political connections!
