Yesterday, I experienced firsthand how powerful a unifier art can be for bringing together diverse groups of people. I was at the Olive Tree art exhibit at WIZO Afula, where a group of Arab and Jewish women showcased their paintings. These women - all local residents - meet every week for two hours at WIZO Afula to create art together, get to know and learn about one another. As an important cultural symbol for both Jews and Arabs, the olive tree was the perfect subject for this exhibit. Both of our people use it as a staple in cooking, revere it for its health benefits, and tell the story of Noah, the flood, and the dove of peace carrying the famous olive branch. Individually, these paintings showcase each womans uniqueness and personality, while together as an exhibit, they celebrate the groups accomplishments as a whole. I hope you enjoy the paintings!
