Yesterday I had the frustrating experience of sitting in Church, - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I had the frustrating experience of sitting in Church, not hearing a single word -- not the talks, not the music, not the announcements. The service was undoubtedly a good one (they all are) but you sure couldnt prove it by me. I have had trouble with my hearing for the last two or three years, but suddenly it is much worse. Today I am wearing a sound amplification device (one of the devices sold at pharmacies and mail order catalogs for 30 or 40 dollars and which are very good at increasing the volume of the sound reaching the eardrum) and it does help some. I sat in the waiting room at Downy tire in Indianola while my flat tire was being repaired and was amazed that I could clearly hear the conversation across the room and even could hear parts of the conversations going on out in the shop. However, I think I need the kind of help a prescription hearing aid would give me that is adjusted for the specific frequencies that are missing in my brain or hearing apparatus. I am very reluctant to spend thousands of dollars for a real hearing aid (or two, as I would need one for each ear) when I hear so many stories of people who have hearing aids and still cant hear (including two of my siblings). Does anyone within the range of my facebook circle have prescription hearing aids that are totally satisfactory and that actually enable you to hear most of the sounds that you have lost with age? A final word to my young friends: Please wear hearing protection when you are operating noisy machines (chain saws, vacuum cleaners, air hammers, airplanes, angry toddlers, etc.) or playing loud music with ear buds in your ears. You will be sorry when you are old if you dont take proper care of the sensitive devices within your skull.
