Yesterday I posted a couple of paragraphs contrasting governments (you know, the gangs whose well-documented history includes such exploits as dropping atomic bombs on cities, deliberately starving millions of people, and seeking to exterminate entire ethnic groups and other designated classes of undesirables) and business corporations (you know, commercial organizations that do not do such things). I made the contrast in such graphic manner that I thought its point would be undeniable. Naturally the responses to this post (especially in places where it was reposted) have included a great deal of clucking about the evils of corporations and allegations that any evil the state does is actually to be ascribed to the corporations, who allegedly control the state in every significant regard, much as a puppet master controls his puppet. This is one of those occasions when I have the sinking feeling that many people do not understand, among many other things, the concepts order of magnitude and fundamental versus derivative.
