Yesterday I shared a piece on three separate observations concerning `devolution` of the human species through attitudes. And now here is a newspaper article suggesting we are all getting dumber. I seriously do not think people are getting more stupid with regards to latent I.Q`s, I think it has much to do with the society that is being created for us by those previously empowered to raise academic expectations. Certainly many school kids aren`t getting the more focussed level of education they once did. We live in a world where our viewpoints are `suggested` by the media to such a degree that I am often absolutely shocked by some peoples attitudes towards other humans suffering from war or poverty.. The educational decline really started three decades ago, when standards in school`s were starting to slip, which was evidenced by school exams being artificially manipulated to make lower marks achieve higher pass rates. A few years back modern school students with excellent pass rates were encouraged to complete an exam paper set for children in the old, `11 plus` exams, - which as the title suggests was an exam paper set for children in that age group. The majority failed miserably to pass a paper written in 1963 for children at least 7 years younger than them. For me, that set the alarm bells ringing. And with regard to bad social attitudes, that has more to do with people feeling disempowered in their lives through lowering social mores, that actually encourages them to be less responsible, and thinking less for their actions. Many people are so unhappy with their own lot, that they despise others who are either more successful or more enthusiastic with their lives. Certainly tv has much to blame here, and just look at the small screen to see the lowering in quality of programmes which no longer challenges the intellect, and effectively stops people exercising their brains more. Hence the evolution of `reality` television, which despite it`s title is often quite the reverse. For me, I see my life as a quest for knowledge, and in the pursuit of that I have many interests asides from film making and the paranormal which keeps my mind continually active, and certainly I feel much enriched for that. And I don`t accept anything unless I can check the facts, or actually go out into the world to see it for myself. And history for me has always topped my favourites as a learning tool, as we can learn elements from the past that sometimes gives it`s students the ability to see into the future. And currently, that seems pretty grim when you see so many less caring, stupid, and thoughtless people.
