Yesterday I stewarded for Mr. Russell Hornfisher. The picture is the heeling pattern he used for UB. Starts in the middle of the ring and heads to the top left corner. You can see where the slows and fasts were. The UB exhibitors were excited to have a different heeling pattern. I wanted to go home and get my dog so I could play too. I asked Russell if received any push back for this pattern and why he uses it. No push back. In fact, he started using it because he did receive feedback that his fasts were too short. He uses this pattern to get a long fast and slow. He says its much easier to judge because he doesnt have to move much judge the pattern. He also said it allowed him to be 10 to 15 feet behind the dog after the stand command, which he couldnt get doing one of the traditional patterns. He said it also exposes those exhibitors with bad footwork who rely on the ring barriers to hide their bad footwork. He did say after the exhibitors see it a few times, they get their footwork in order quickly. Russell said he also uses this pattern for OB as well, but spares the UA and OA from the pattern.
