Yesterday, Mike Horsey, the admissions director at Georgetown Prep - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, Mike Horsey, the admissions director at Georgetown Prep during my high school years passed away after a long battle with cancer. Im glad I had the chance to exchange emails with his sister and son during the last couple of weeks. I only found out about his cancer recently, and I feel fortunate that I was able to thank him by email for the kindness he showed me over 2 decades ago. We were a poor, immigrant family from Romania, living in rural NC, and my parents decided to send an application to Georgetown Prep in Maryland. Snowballs probably have a better chance in hell. I had good grades, but a) we were poor and there was no way we could afford even the books, much less the tuition and room/board, b) the application deadline had passed by 2 months. Somehow, Mike Horsey not only reviewed the application, but took the time to talk to my family, accept me, and on top of it, worked to get me scholarship money to attend. This one person, who didnt know me, had really no incentive to help a nobody like me, took the time and cared enough to offer me a chance. Its Thanksgiving season, and Ill be forever thankful for that chance. Rest in peace, Mike. Your memory lives on.
