Yesterday Tampa Bay Watchers were planting sea oats at Ft. De Soto - TopicsExpress

Yesterday Tampa Bay Watchers were planting sea oats at Ft. De Soto and got to see one of North Americas rarest and least well-known herons: the Reddish Egret! Despite its name egret, reddish egrets are in fact herons. As a group of birds, herons are known for being stealthy shoreline hunters, but Reddish Egrets often are rather animated and spirited foragers. Yesterday we witnessed one hunting bait in the wave swash zone; It often would stealthily stalk the small, darting fish, then flair its wings, prancing around quickly to corral and confuse its prey right before attacking - quite a marvelous site and a testament to the improving condition of our bay habitats! travellogs.us/Miscellaneous/Birds/Reddish%20Egret/ReddishEgret%20TX.jpg
