Yesterday a republican candidate running for a KY state - TopicsExpress

Yesterday a republican candidate running for a KY state legislature seat made the mistake of knocking on my door. This individual asked me about my familys top priority. He started listing public issues: economy, jobs, traditional family values, Obamacare, pro life, pro choice.... I had to stop him right there. I explained to him that its impossible to choose just one, as they are all top priorities. Its not Obamacare, its the ACA Affordable Care Act. He said, No one knows what the Affordable Care Act is. I told him Im more informed than just anyone. I went on to explain to him that I love the ACA, but in our area there arent many doctors that accept the ACA plans. Thats the doctors choice what plans they will accept and what they wont. I have an employer sponsored Humana insurance plan. My mother has an ACA Humana plan. I can go to any doctor I choose, but my mother cant. The doctors are spiteful and should be be more participatory because it only hurts the patients. Other areas of our state and in other states, the doctors accept the equivalent plans without a problem. My mother had the ACA plan for 6 months before she was able to find a doctor to accept it. My mom needs new glasses; she hasnt had a pair of new glasses in 15 years. She cant find an optometrist in this area or a dentist to accept her insurance plan even though its completely comparable to my own employer sponsored plan. This is a huge problem. I let him know Im a democrat, very pro choice, and my *traditional family values* probably dont align with his... He got a well educated, well informed- ear full. I sure felt better afterwards. I wish we could all have face-to-face conversations with our prospective and elected representatives like I was able to yesterday. They represent us, they should represent us how WE want them to. ~Tiv
