Yesterday, history was made once again in the Oil rich city of Olomoro in Isoko South Local Govt Area of Delta State as HRH Aghaza was crowned via the presentation of staff of office as the Odiologbo of Olomoro Kingdom. The ceremony was highly colorful and symbolic as well wishers of Olomoro from all works of life attended the ceremony. While we congratulate His Royal Highness on this occasion, one is sad that even at 100yrs of amalgamation and 63yrs of independence, Nigerians are yet to shake off the entire elements of colonialism that has further violate our cultural heritage. prior to the advent of colonialism which hitherto translate to indirect rule system, Nigerians had a culture that puts absolute respect on the traditional institutions. presentation of staff of office was not known to our tradition. However, the British quest to control all asundry within the colonized territory made it imperative to introduced the staff of office that would make the traditional institutions to be more responsive to the government than its people. it would be recalled that most of the kings who chested out to resist the draconian policies of the then colonial masters were chased away from their domain and others had no choice other than to do the biddings of the govt for fear of the unknown.For how long shall we continue to swim in the colonial pattern of administration through our most valuable institutions? ..............Be that as it may, we say congratulations to HRH Aghaza 1, the Odiologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, may your reign be characterize by peace and transformation.
