Yesterday ran the gamut of emotions. I was happy because Harold was honored as he should in his passing but I was also happy to learn of all the accolades that were given him before which I didnt know. What also ran through my head was if the funeral had been on the weekend then they may have had to close part of Clifton to accommodate the people who wanted to be there. Lastly, I thought of Harold looking down on us and thinking theyre making too much of a fuss over me. Chad asked me about the first time I met his Grandpa. I told him oddly enough I didnt remember the exact circumstance and what transpired. I think I was introduced to him when we worked the same shift at the store (B&N). Some time later though I do remember Harold saying something in the Philippine language which surprised me. One, he correctly pegged me as a Filipino. Two, he knew a little of the language. He went on to say he had been there. Being naive, I asked him if he had gone on vacation and knew people there. He smiled that famous smile and said I wish it was for a vacation. Thats how my relationship with Harold began. I thought to myself, I hope he likes working here so hed stay longer. It would be interesting to get to know him. In the nearly 14 years he was there with us as part of the B&N family, the word interesting doesnt cover it. I have more to say. Lots more. I will continue to write about my friend Harold. Its my way of grieving without mourning. Its also a way for me not to forget.
