Yesterday three Muslims murdered 12 people in cold blood. It is relevant to state that they were Muslims because that was their religion of choice and their motive for the killings. Of course i dont think that all Muslims are terrorists or even as was suggested that all terrorists are Muslim. Andres Breyvik saw himself as a Christian knight. The Israeli Defence Force is mostly Jewish. But at the root cause of these killings are religious extremism. We cannot start to make sense of these incidents if we refuse to speak about the elephant in the room. If we refuse to admit that in all these cases these men (and it seems to be men mostly) were part of a religious community. This community who instead of calling them out and taking steps against extremism at the very least allowed them to continue on their merry way. And dare I say, probably applauded their devoutness. Last night Afrikaans singer Bouwer Bosch pleaded that religion should be exempt from criticism. (Bouwer of course worships the God of rape Jehovah and his misogynist son Jesus). He went on to suggest on to suggest that the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo deserved what they got. Bouwer is clearly a radical fundamentalist and a stupid one at that. He will however be seen as a man of peace whilst outraged atheists will be considered the troublemakers. And if you should today call out religion a lot of religious people will rush to point out that not all Muslims or Christians or Jews are like that. Fair enough, but here is the thing, they might claim not to be like that but any reading of their religious texts makes it clear that their religion is and they are in supporting it part of the problem. The nicest white people voted for apartheid. That made them complicit. The same here. If by choice you associate with texts that are in its very core violent, hateful, misogynistic books you are part of the problem. And you have a choice. This is not something meaningless and unchangable like skin colour. This is the very core of your view of life and morality. It is the only thing you should ever be judged on and quite frankly it is not looking good. So it is entirely fair and not racist to say that Muslims tried to kill Charlie Hebdo. Because Muslims did. And their clerics like Anjem Choudary who lectures Sharia law in London supports it - from the Koran. t.co/6e9ue7XIiX
