Yesterday we spent the day on the beach - until mom said: Lets go out to eat. So we got in the car and drove to the other side of the island, some 20 miles, to the only place that serves a decent vegan meal. Unfortunately there are no vegan restaurants in Curacao, but this place is so down to earth, we can just ask and its made fresh. The owner surprised us with a special dish, lots of veggies with squash and nuts. After a nice dinner, with fantastic views and bird watching, she said she couldnt accept bank cards for payment, only visa or cash. So we asked her if we could withdraw some cash somewhere. She shook her head: There was one cash point, but the machine was stolen, about a year ago, and the bank hasnt replaced it. She added: But dont worry. Just pay me some other time. Serious? She insisted: Yes, dont worry about it. you pay me when you pay me. Dont stress yourself, if you feel like coming to Westpunt again in March, then I make money in March. She laughed and walked away. While driving back, I said to Adonis: Thats just like you, you would do that too. He was born and raised in Cuba, where every car in the street stops to help people get where they need to be, but he suffered quite a few deceptions in Curacao. The Good is always returned, in some way or another, he responded. Maybe when you least expect it. Eight miles down the road he stopped the car in front of a bank, got cash and then drove back to Westpunt. to pay the bill.
