Yield: The amount of steel delivered to the ladle and not necessarily the same as the amount of scrap charged. The ratio of the quantity of finished shipments to the total raw steel produced, adjusted for changes in inventory and any slabs that are purchased from outside. Yield has significantly improved during the past decade, primarily as the result of the industrys conversion to continually cast steel, whose yield is superior to that of traditional ingot teeming. Tons of finished steel products, divided by total tons of charged steel, as a percentage.
