You are welcome to another edition of Insights from Gods Word, a Bible study programme that is committed to sharing Gods Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself. My dear friends, i greet you in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Today, we begin our study on the Laws of diet. We will first consider the issue in the Old Testament before we come to analyze the various New Testament texts. The Old Testament opens with a world where everything is in perfect harmony. (Genesis 1-2) In this utopia, so to speak, God carefully ordained the food of man. In Genesis 1:29 we read: And God said, see, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. When Adam and Eve sinned against the clear command of God, they were driven out from the garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:23-24) Without access to the tree of life, God graciously added vegetables to their diet. (Genesis 3:18) Beloved, Gods original food for man was a strict vegetarian diet; comprising of fruits, nuts and vegetables. If we compare the amazing strength, health and longevity that characterized the people who lived before the flood with our own, we realize that we fall desperately short. As we contemplate on this huge difference, one clear fact that is hard to miss is that they ate differently from us. Their diet contained no flesh food. Friends, the first food that God gave us was certainly the best. Today, amidst the consistent outbreak of animal infected diseases such as Bird Flu, Swine Flu, Ebola etc. that plague mankind, people are begining to seriously consider the wisdom of Gods first food for man. Honest- hearted scientists and nutritionists are propagating accross the globe, the undeniable reasons why a plant-based diet is a better option for mankind today. In our subsequent studies, we are going to consider the questions: 1. Why did God give flesh food to man? 2. Why the distinction between clean and unclean animals? 3. Do these dietary laws apply to Christians today? Exhortation: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 2 Have a blessed day and keep shining for King Jesus. Maranatha!!!
