You can never appreciate life enough, I am sitting here thinking about my grandmother who is 98 years old and can not even imagine or fathom all of the events that she has experience. She was 2 when World War I begun, 14 when the Great Depression hit, 23 for World War II. Some others include the Korean War, The introduction of Alaska and Hawaii as states, the civil rights movement, and the Vietnam War which was most likely difficult because the involvement of her sons in the war while serving in the United States Marine Corps. These are just some of the instances of history that she experience but none of these could or ever would compare to what she accomplished in her life. She raised 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters. This in it self is an enormous feat. She has lived numerous years after her husband, my grandfather pass way and burying a daughter at a young age. I can recall stories of her going outside with her .22 rifle and killing rabbits for supper, washing her clothes on a scrub board, which I still remember her doing well into her 80s. My grandfather was a sheep herder, which meant that my grandmother was alone often and needed to provide for her family. to which she did! She is the strongest women that I know, she is the Matriarch of the family and does not have a problem voicing her intentions or opinions to anyone regardless of your who you are. I will always remember going over to her house and opening the top drawer in her living room and pulling out my favorite toys to play with. They were simple toys, nothing like the toys today. One was a mouse and the only thing that it did was spin its legs, others included an action figure but only his head moved. I would sit there on her floor and play for hours while we visited. I also remember when me and my bother Gary were outside throwing rocks at a train passing by. She had told us to stop but we didnt listen, (go figure) and that is when she came out with the broom and smacked both of us with it!. Not just once but multiple times. At the time I remember being mad at her for it but I never through rocks at the train again. Now that I think about it, I wish that I could have witness the scene. A little old 4 foot nothing 75 year old women running after two kids who were bigger than her with a broom! I imagine that would have been quite the site! It is extremely hard to really put into words how much my grandmother means to me and what she has taught me. She has been a pillar of strength in my life and I am grateful and blessed to say that I still have my grandmother of 98 years of age still in my life.
