You didnt have to go to residential school to experience the full extent of what was happening in there. For your convenience, most of your parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, grand, aunties and uncles, brought it home for you. The deadly silence of not talking about the abuse was inter-generationly taught to you through what is known as family secrets. It takes a whole lot of courage to break this cycle especially when your own family and community will most likely attack and shun you for breaking the silence. Just like the many who have shunned me and tell others that I am promoting hate, and some go as far as trying to discredit me by saying I must be crazy. Even the great Adam Beach did the same to me for speaking the truth. But I push forward as many who know what must be done in order for any healing to happen. Aboriginal Youth suicide in not an act of God and neither is it an accident. It is learned behavior stemming from years of hidden silent abuse. Let us work together to end this residential school epidemic that plagues each and every one of our Aboriginal communities. End the silence. Our children have the God given right to live a good and healthy life free from the silence of deadly family secrets. indianjoeblow
