You know - I never really volunteered to help out at Young Parents Network. My wife, Cindy Reece, strongly encouraged me to help watch toddlers in a child care room while their parents were participating in group discussion sessions. I did, however, volunteer to take over facilitation of the Dads Group when the position came open 3 1/2 years ago. It has been one of the greatest decisions of my life. Approximately 40 weeks a year I get to spend a couple hours around young men who are there simply because they want to be better fathers. Many face challenges that the rest of us can only imagine. Last night was one of those special times when it was truly my privilege to take part in the discussion, which became centered around the familys emotional bank account and how the deposits and withdrawals effected communication. Unfortunately we have time constraints and had to cut off the discussion. As Ive said before - Im proud to know these guys. Look around - lots of organizations need volunteers. Maybe youll be lucky enough to find something you like as much as I enjoy YPN.
