You might be wondering about all of those questions that were sent in a couple of weeks ago... Weve finally got a chance to sit together and go over a few. Very funny stuff. Hope you enjoy it. - - MMPC: How are all of you? Thanks for sitting with me to answer some questions from fans. Molly: We’re doing well and are enjoying the summer and getting ready for Halloween! Judy: We really enjoyed time with our grandson while he was home. - - From Wayne Pearson: Martin, do you still keep in touch with Kent McCord? Is it true that you did training with the LAPD Academy to learn police procedures for the show? Martin: Kent and I had some training. Bill Reinhardt trained us. Not only was the technical advisor but also he became a life-long friend. Judy and I are still in touch with Kent and Cynthia. - - From Daniel Ross: Thanks, Marty and Judy for sharing your lives with all of us. You are very special people. God bless you and your family. All: God bless you, too. - - Here’s my question for Mr. Milner. If you hadn’t been an actor, what other profession would you have pursued other than avocado rancher? Martin: I would have been an architect or a fisherman. Judy: Martin designed our house in Fallbrook and studied architecture in college. - - From Kelly Elrich: Can you tell us something sweet or funny about Judy and the kids? Molly: When the kids were young, we went skiing. They lost all of our luggage so mom used the hotel sheets, bedspreads, and curtains and made everyone outfits like in Gone With the Wind. The only suitcase that arrived at first was Stuart’s. We didn’t have any winter clothes with us so we wore those outfits in the room and didn’t ski until our clothes arrived four days later. Rick: You’ve been making clothes for the kids for most of their lives, Judy. Molly, what did you think of the clothes your mom made for you, growing up? Judy: The kids wore uniforms for their Episcopalian private school… Molly: …The uniforms were super expensive and we had summer uniforms and winter uniforms. We had little pink and pale blue and pale yellow dresses with a bib around the top - they were sleeveless shifts. And we had chapel every day. On the first day, in chapel, they said, “Why don’t the Milner girls stand up and show us our new summer uniforms?” Amy and I both stood up and they immediately asked us to sit down. Judy: You know what? I didn’t get the collars on straight. I was in a hurry and I thought they wouldn’t even notice since it was the first day. Molly: The collars were crooked and the dresses were a little ugly. You tried, Mom. Judy: I did (laughing). Molly: Mom did my Home Ec sewing and I still failed. Judy: I was terrible. I even had a sewing room! - - When they shot Adam-12, did they every intentionally cover up Martin’s freckles with makeup? Judy: No. He wore makeup but they never intentionally covered his freckles. - - From a fan: Do you have a favorite Route 66 episode? Martin: I really enjoyed the episode with Sessue Hayakawa. I also enjoyed the episode with Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney. - - Judy, do you have a favorite Route 66 memory? Judy: One time while we were filming in Florida, we all had little cabins to stay in. The kids wanted to get out and run in this big grassy area so I let them go outside and play. Finally, when it was time to call them in for bath time, the caretaker walked by and said, “glad you didn’t come out earlier, I just killed twelve water moccasins, right here!” I couldn’t believe it! The kids would have run right into them. I didn’t let them go outside any more after that. Judy: Another of my favorite memories was when Martin did Weeki Wachee, a mermaid show that was all under water. You would go into the auditorium and there’s a big water tank. These girls come swimming in and they do their dances and then swim back into the tube to get air. It was amazing! Martin did a Route 66 episode in that tank – he was swimming and smiling – it was really interesting. - - Do you have any stories about traveling in the van? Martin: When we were in Des Moines, we were staying in a motel. The kids were little so I would have to go into town to wash their cloth diapers in the laundromat. One time I actually did an interview in the laundromat while I was washing the kids’ diapers. The interviewer actually mentioned in the article that I took care of the kids’ laundry. - - Judy, what was it like traveling on the road with Martin during Route 66? Was it stressful packing and moving every eight to ten days, all around the country? Judy: It wasn’t that hard. I had a woman, Millie Miller, who helped me on the road with the kids. She was Martin’s nanny when he was a boy. - - Why was the Greenbrier on a tow truck? Martin: It had no pep and it had an air conditioner that would only work for about 10 minutes. But it was one of the first Greenbriers! Judy: Martin actually bought a motor home and leased it back to the studio so he could use it as his dressing room. He was the first actor to do that. They actually ended up buying us another one to use as well. - - Were the Corvettes that Chevy supplied you the same color as in the show? Judy: No, they were different colors. Once I needed a car to go somewhere when we were out on the road. They gave us a Corvette to use but I couldn’t actually take all three kids anywhere at the same time. I could take Amy and Molly or I could just take Stuart. There was only a little jumpseat in the back. Molly: Then dad bought mom one of those big checker limos. Judy: It was a Checker Aerobus. I drove that for six years! Molly: One time Andrew filled the gas tank up with walnuts. Judy: I went in to get gas and I said, “there’s something wrong with the motor or something.” They guy looked before he put the gas in and said, “My God, walnuts are floating in there.” I immediately said, “Andrew!” He did it twice! It was a great car though. When we went to the airport, I could park anywhere I wanted to – they always thought I was there to pick people up. Each kid had a window and we took the handles off the back doors so the boys couldn’t get out. The dog sat in the way back. I put my own seatbelts in the car so the kids were all really contained. Otherwise, Andrew would go from the back to the front, and to the back and then the front again. - - Rick: Molly, there are Christmas cards of the four of you kids, in a Jacuzzi. Was this an every year thing? Molly: Mom and Dad took pictures of us kids every year in the beach house. We would always fight the entire time. Martin: I would say, “I’m never doing this again.” Judy: And the kids would say, “I’m never doing this again.” Then I’d get them all back together and we would try again. - - From a fan: Molly, are you a daddy’s girl? Molly: Yes, I am! I always have been. I went on fishing trips with dad, everywhere. Amy went on the road and worked with dad. Judy: She was the sergeant. They called her “Sergeant Ames.” - Well, there you have our first Facebook Milner Family interview. We hope you like it. Stay tuned for Part 2!
