You might have seen already - we are trying to raise some money for the Musafir a project that myself, some of you and many others around the world will be part of at some stage! In the past 3 years, we have managed to build a 21 meters traditional Swahili boat using traditional techniques in a very remote part of the Kenyan Coast - at the mouth of the Tana River - living few meters from crocodiles and hippos, full of mosquitoes and all kinds of parasites that go under your skin - but also an unbelievably beautiful untouched place! the amount of work and dedication has been very inspiring to the eyes of all that have followed the project! The objective of the boat is to travel rural and remote parts of the world and to do good wherever possible, in whatever form, depending on who is on board at the time - most of those presently involved did a permaculture course recently here and can maybe help farmers in rural coastal areas by recommending mutually beneficial plants and solutions to prevent erosion and enrich the soil. Maybe by becoming a floating theater. Maybe you have your own idea of what it could become? Its a vessel for the dreamers - a giant dream that has come true - and ready to sail all the dreamers of the world to wherever they want to go! Financially - the boat aims to be self-sufficient by transporting materials, fishing, exchanging goods and services... Since the beginning, the team has gathered more than 100,000$ to reach this stage. The Musafir is floating beautifully, and we are now in Kipini raising its 5 tons, 16meter mast as I mentioned before. Last week we hosted a fundraising ever here in Kilifi and raised 1500 euros - enough to buy sails, pullies and ropes! This will allow the boat to sail down from Kipini the lagoon of Kilifi in November where the deck will be finished (materials are ready), the engine fitted, and cabins built. The boat needs a last little push before it can sail off ! And I want to ask for your help. If you cant quite afford to contribute with money - could you contribute a little time and do the following: 1) Forward this message to some people or so whom you know will listen to you and ask them to keep on forwarding and forwarding? 2) Could you post a small message on your wall? If you want you can copy and paste this pre-typed message below to save you time? 3) This is the link to the crowd funding: https://indiegogo/projects/musafir--2/x/8477388 Thank you very much to all of you guys Love and good energy from Kipini!! “ Some friends of ours have started a truly remarkable project in Kenya! They had the dream to build a very big boat, sail the most rural and most remote parts of the world and to have a positive impact wherever they go. Three years later, the dream has come true - the Musafir (which means ‘Traveller’ in several languages) was launched. This 21 meter/ 70 foot traditional wooden boat was built in a very remote part of the Kenyan Coast – at the mouth of the Tana River – meters away from Hippos and Crocodiles, in seriously rough and yet beautiful conditions. About twenty people from all around the world have been helping out with the project by donating time, money or love! The boat will belong to no one – it’s a boat for dreamers to make their dreams come true, to contribute whatever good they feel they can offer. The Musafir is almost ready… she is now beautifully floating, 3 ton mast about to be raised and the deck about to be started. The engine must fitted and cabins built. The project was self-funded by the dreamers from the beginning, but now they need a little push before the boat can sail off! Your contribution, however small, would be extremely appreciated – it a unique project that truly deserves every penny! A crowdfunding initiative was started few days ago (see below). If you cannot afford to contribute money, could you share this message and ask your friends to keep on sharing?
