You say you dont have to attend church to be a Christian? - TopicsExpress

You say you dont have to attend church to be a Christian? Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O, Israel. Jehovah our God is one Jehovah. 5 And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words which I command you this day shall be in your heart. 7 And you shall carefully teach them to your sons, (and daughters) and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 And you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates... I dont quite teach my kids that often the word of God, but I do what I can when I can. a couple of weeks ago I was talking with Harley and asked her what she would say if someone told her that they believed that they didnt have to go to church to be a Christian? She started trying to explain why we go, such as praying, praising, worshiping she said. I told her that those folks would say that they can do those things where ever the wanted, it doesnt have to be in church. I asked her what do you say to that? She smiled and shrugged her shoulders and said I dont know. I told her that isnt what the bible teaches us. I shared a very edited version of Hebrews 10:24 and let us consider one another to provoke to love and to good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. It may not be a commandment, at the very least it is a very good suggestion. I also told her about what Paul says in 1Cointhians 12:12 For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. 13 For also by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17 If all the body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If all hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body as it has pleased Him. 19 And if they were all one member, where would be the body?... Again It was very abbreviated for her to understand. So I explained it this way. I asked her to imagine that my body was the body of Christ. I said think about each one of my fingers is a person (a member of the body.) I said, I go to work and I cut a finger off on a saw! (eeewwhugh!!! she said.) She said if you were God, you could just grow another finger! I said lets not get side tracked here. (But that does bring up a good point that we wont cover now.) I told her that I could still do things like pick up my coffee mug. I said life would be a little more difficult but I would manage. But, I said what about the finger that has been cut off. What can it do by itself? My 7 year old daughter said Nothing. I said you are right! I suggested to her to ask those people that say they dont have to go to church to be a Christian What else dont you have to do and still be a Christian? I told her that I would bet that most, if not all of them are not doing a lot of things that God wants us to do. Like, I dont know, bare fruit maybe!! I explained some of the missions that our church is involved in. I told her that I would dare say that those folks arent doing those things either. All of this makes me think of the studies that I have on my Facebook page. (see my notes.) There is tons more info there. Now, Im not suggesting that Im a perfect Christian. I miss the mark by a long shot! Im just trying to make a point here, we have things we must do or at least ought to do. Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.... As my kids get older they are going to be told so many things that just wont add up. I want them to be prepared for all that is going to be pulling them away from what God wants them to do and be. I want them to 1Peter 3:15 but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason of the hope in you, with meekness and fear; God Bless and go and Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
