>> Young players expected to stir up Nhan Dan Newspaper national table tennis tourney The five-day event, sponsored by PetroVietnam and Ca Mau Fertiliser Company Limited, features seven categories – singles, doubles and team events for both men and women and the mixed doubles discipline. Speaking at the opening, Nhan Dan Newspaper Deputy Editor-in-chief, Le Quoc Khanh, said that the event has been held annually since 1982 to develop the table tennis movement nationwide, while creating favourable conditions for participants to exchange and hone their skills. The tournament has been considered as one of the largest and most prestigious table tennis events in Vietnam, helping to evaluate the quality of athlete training in localities and sectors and to select outstanding performers for national teams. The first day of competition saw eight matches in both men’s and women’s team events. In the men’s team event, Khanh Hoa met the Army team while Hanoi and Hai Duong played Petrosetco Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long, respectively. On the women’s side, the host Dak Lak competed with Ho Chi Minh City while Petrosetco Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi confronted Hai Phong and Tien Giang teams, respectively.
