The three year old democracy turned beast by failing to defend its children from the blood thirsty North Korea trained 5th Brigade also commonly known as Gukurahundi...a @1978 ZANU crafted word . This brigade pursued a couple of dissidents... a foreign hatched group to taint Zapu-Zpra image. Nkomo had surrendered the army to government which recklessly ignored full integration of forces by letting ex-Zpra cadres victim of all forces...Zanla,Rf and Dzakudzaku. Even BMATT led by MaClean found field day on Zpra. You may remember the earlier murder of Zpra guys in Lupane when they were coming to assembly,rf decided to get a last revenge on their all time war tormentors. This happened under cover of cease fire. There was national denial on atrocities committed by Gukurahundi. Nkomo brokered unity on peace wing. He hated blood. Today sponsored noises are heard labelling Nkomo a traitor. This is how history is deliberately distorted to praise non performers by hook and crook. Why call him father of dissidents today and father Zimbabwe tomorrow. Shakespeare siad the devil can cite scriptures to his benefit. Gen Josh knew when to act and he did. In short the West enjoyed ,whites too saw revenge on death of the gallant Zpra who had proved their prowess in liberation of Zimbabwe/ ZANU/Zanla found basis for capturing history to their glory. Zora was and remains the brave fighters. Even Gen Peter Walls confirmed the well oiled Zpra machine which he said could romp in from Cape to Cairo. These heroes died unarmed in the hands of cowards who ran all the way from the Rf. Unarmed civilians lost their lives too. Pregnant mothers had unscrupulous bayonnet caesareans only to bleed and die along with their pre-term babies labelled dissidents. Today mass graves lie all over the southern region. The post unity life was even more fraudulent. Yes mass loss of lives stopped but deaths and arrests continued. ZAPU properties were confiscated and records destroyed. In government southeeners were hardly employed in substantive posts. The few who were became deputies among a pack of wolves.They would be frustrated out of their jobs. Meanwhile the political organisation and tentacles of Zapu were destroyed. Leadership was converted or Zanunised. The top brass was chosen of malleable or flamboyants who loved pomp and fanfare. They were given power to destroy their party for supper. The true party cadres saw this and ducked out. Some died mysteriously ..Masuku, and others. They were dealt with in units. You divide and rule,clearly the hands of the British.The ZANU organisation and tentacles spread country wide. It was strange to find and is still so to find some former ZAPU cadres being more ZANU than the ZANU ones. Minnows stood on shoulders of giants and claimed victory they never masterminded. ZAPU/Zpra are the original party and liberators of Zimbabwe. The all inclusive party was undone by colonial goons using tribalism and power-hungry minnows . By the way they were not white but prejudiced whites. ZAPU scared Smith and the western world. Zpras communist war arms labelled them enemies of the west. Their gallantry cost them a ticket to state house. Their 1967 M.K/Zpra alliance declared them an enemy of South Africa..authors of dissidents. Gullible Zimbabweans got divided and freedom went into intensive care. It is not too late to re-live the ZAPU freedom philosophy Long live the truth.
