Lets keep your phone energized throughout the day. How long does the battery last from 100% to 0%? If you remove the cover, does the battery look normal? Is it swollen, or do you notice any corrosion around the charging ports? Any physical or water damage done to the phone itself? If the phone becomes too hot to touch, I would strongly recommend bringing the device into a corporate store location for hands on review so that no injuries are caused. When I charge up either battery and put one in the phone, it will not power on. If I plug the phone in it will turn on, warn the battery is low, and begin to heat up very quickly as it continues to boot. After a minute or two it will shut off without warning. It appears there is some sort of internal short. At any rate, I have received a replacement S4 from Verizon and should be back up soon. Just wish I could run it long enough to be sure everything is fully backed up. We bought car chargers from Verizon and now they dont work. Even worse, my wifes charging cable has started to crap out, even without any visible damage. I can use any USB cable as long as its plugged into the charging HEAD (with the plug) which indicates that the phone is recognizing that plug, not just the cable. Lucky for me I keep my old USB cables from previous phones, but hope this gets fixed soon. Is the charger that came with our phone covered under warranty? Replacement cables would go a long way to carrying us over to the fix. My S4 stopped charging on certain chargers after the 4.3 update yet always charges on a USB port or a USB wall outlet charger. I have a couple Motorola chargers with the mini USB connector on them and they would not charge yet they did before the upgrade. I also found that when properly charging on a USB port, I can quickly remove the cable from the phone and plug the Motorola charger in and it will continue to charge and show the lightening bolt icon. Booting up with the Motorola wall charger plugged in will sometimes recognize the charger and display the lightening bolt until unplugged, then it will not recognize the Motorola charger. I am not having an overheating problem. I sure hope Verizon gets this fixed soon! Charges fine at home and will charge in the car after I remove the battery. I took the phone into the verizon store and they ordered me a new one when they duplicated the problem. Got the new one and loaded all the updates and the phone again would not charge with the verizon supplied charger. Took it into the store and they ordered me another new phone and replaced the battery and the charging cord. Just now am reading the boards because there is no way this is hardware. Good to see that as I suspected it was the software. Someone needs to inform the store staff and someone needs to fix this. For those of us that run our businesses with these phones, this is unsat!!!! A hard reset seems rather harsh and does not seem like a service oriented approach to solving what is an obvious problem. Just confirmed that about one hour ago. I still think Verizon/Samsung whoever! when they learned of this fairly widespread issue should have altered its customers and said there is a fix on its way or hard reset or something rather than leave us hanging out to dry. I though I had done something to the phone. Lord knows how many folks out there havent logged onto to boards to realize that somethings afoot with the update. Well, rather took 4 days to die.It had most of the problems that people are reporting, but also my one of my email accounts stopped working properly, Wi-Fi issues, battery drain, etc. Then on the last day I put it on the charger before going to bed as I do every day, and when I woke up the phone was hot and dead. Black screen, not able to power up either alone, with charger or USB. Battery has juice per my husbands volt meter. I have lost everything, with no hope of recapture. A CLNR phone is on its way, but I dont want a refurb phone to replace a phone that was working perfectly fine before their update, only to be actually killed by the update. I want a new phone, and one that doesnt have the update on it. At least you all have phones, with the exception it seems, being the first person on this thread, who I am replying to primarily. This is my first and last Samsung, and probably my last contract with Verizon. They need to be making this right instead of denying that there are issues with the update, and sending previously broken and repaired phones is not doing the right thing. Ive never had a CLNR phone that didnt have to be replaced by another CLNR phone within 6 months at the latest. I feel like we would have seen even more users complaining, so maybe by some odd chance, were the minority that actually have some weird overlooked problem with our hardware? Who knows, I doubt it ... but theres wishful thinking. I am right there with ya though. Ive called VZW several times now, with the primary goal of getting acknowledgement of the issue and some sort of commitment to public notice as well as a time frame for resolution. Yet, for the most part, it seems that on phone and online, VZW is stating no such problems exist and simply wiping the phone or replacing it is the solution. All in all, not too thrilled with the level of customer support by both Verizon and Samsung on these matters. Like dhp58, it happened overnight while charging. The first one was extremely hot and would not power on. The second was not hot and had a solid green LED but would not power on. I now have my 3rd phone in just over a month! They were going to overnight a replacement battery but it never arrived, supposedly it will be here tomorrow. But after reading these comments, and those elsewhere I think the battery is probably ok. I cant keep being without my phone. Fortunately the replacement has 4.2.2 but I get prompted to update constantly. I suppose Ill have to live with the nags because there is no way Im installing 4.3 on this phone. I only got the S4 new just over a month ago and Id like to, you know, actually use it! AT&T and US Cellular have both pulled the update per Samsungs request who has also pulled the update. Yet Verizon has not. And really, what is up with the constant prompts to upgrade? We get it, there is an update. Leave the charger plugged in during the re-boot and it should recognize the charger at that point. A bit of a pain yes, but a short term fix until they create a patch to work out this problem. This is what I was told by Verizon level 2 support. I have multiple charges and the only one that works is the original one that came with the phone. I had Verizon send me another phone with older OS but decided not to use it as living with one charge for a while is easier then transferring to another phone. I was told 2 weeks for update to OS. All should call tech support and write on message boards so it gets more priority. Verizon blames it on Samsung. After the update I noticed that the phone would not charge on the car charger. The wall charger has continued to work fine. It was as if the phone no longer recognized the charger. One day I restarted the phone while it was connected to the car charger and it worked. Phone was charging. Now I admit that restarting my phone every time I want to charge in the car is a real pain, it beats starting over with a new phone. Hopefully there will be a fix to this soon.
