#badiou writes that in order to secure being, the doubling of Being as a higher cause to originate the lower is needed. This is also supported by #kant s Religion within the limits of Reason alone. The first two books discuss firstly, the immanent will of Man and secondly the origin of Evil within Man. In this third book, which I am in the middle of, he speaks about the role of the state and how the point of the highest Good can be found within ecclesiastical faith... although such faith has no reality beyond the limitations of practical faith (to live the good life) or historical faith (which is opposed to practical faith due to different constraining limits). Before we get to Kants solution, we need to address the functional difference between Good and Evil. We already understand Good as opposed to Evil naively. In modern tales of Good, cartoons comics or movies, the good guys always, even if diametrically opposed, come under the banner of Good due to principle exceeding their individual limitation. Evil, even if it has principle, can never be a unified force for it is always plagued against itself ... the bad guys can never agree to cooperate on pure principle. Bad guys have to fight among themselves. They are never unified beyond their contingencies... often though, Good as principle is so Good, it takes to dissolving Evil itself. Bad guys turn to Good and in their satisfaction often take the ultimate sacrifice to overcome their contingencies in the name of Good -- they commit suicide for Good to make up for the Evil they have done. Quite often as well, a radical Bad guy who is really only in it for himself, will continue to serve as a scapegoat for Good to oppose, Ahab-ing himself onto the white whale to be forever opposed. Good and Evil in pop culture follow two deployments: Good guys are always weaker than a single bad guy, but due to their cooperation in unshakable principle of Good form a higher unity that overcomes a more powerful foe (Volton, power rangers, X men...) Or a very limited Good guy overcomes many powerful foes due to his unshakeable principle of Good (ex: Batman or Spiderman). Whichever the case, the higher cause Good always supports lower good, just like Beings only true function is to support being that is, in terms of its consistency, to adhere being so that being has a chance to add up to the pure neutrality of Being... spoken in terms of early Levinas, its simply that existents need existence to exist... that existents can only be grounded in the Real through existence, that existence is presumed for existents to cohere on the same level as other existents... for us to be of the same world. In terms of the zero sum signifier of the English copula: is, that is, is allows us to be grounded in this world, to be relevant to reality... To be, whatever you want to be, that whatever must be what is. So how does good relates to religion and state? For Kant, he advocates the practical faith, (regardless of its expression in whatever faith) in order to adhere to the state limitation of moral good... in other words: be practically good, live the good life, follow the rules of the state, and in that way you will adhere yourself, despite the limitations of state and practical life, to the highest Good on order of principle... though that principle in itself have no expression beyond its earthy expression... in this way the little good adds up to a taste of the big Good... for the lack of an organizing Good like the state (which only functions as a state in its neutrality, not one of dominance... which reads literally as Kant very nearly proclaims small government!): lack of any state leads one to only consider themself in extension -- the lack of coherency itself would be what is termed Evil, or simply put, good without Good is what makes Evil. After all, a State is simply the social totalitys unity a given as a state (of being).
