Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Summerize the rationale for applying a systematic analysis of pain in diagnosing pain Recall the symptomatic, anatomical and etiological principles of diagnosing pain Formulate a rational diagnosis of pain using a systematic analysis of symptomatic, anatomical and etiological factors Statement of Need The diagnosis of the patient in pain is often approached without a clear, systematic and analytical method. This approach often leads to errors, unfortunate, costly and time wasting diagnosis. This manner of conclusion is called “Syndromic Diagnosis”: a leap into naming a condition that appears familiar when another condition may be actually to blame. Proper diagnosis requires a clear, systematic and analytical rationale in evaluating a patient’s pain; a transparent approach which identifies, appraises, selects and synthesizes evidence based symptoms while minimizing bias. Method of Participation This activity has a $5.00 fee and should take approximately one hour to complete. Participants should first read the objectives and other introductory CE information, then proceed to the educational offering. To receive credit for this activity, participants must complete the post-test with a passing score of 80%, then complete the evaluation. This credit is valid through May 30, 2014. No credit will be given after this date.
