edford Public Schools 489 Winthrop Street, Medford, Massachusetts 02155 Rocco Cieri [email protected] K-12 Science Coordinator 781-393-2314 March 12th , 2014 Dear Parent Guardian: The 9th grade course that most students take in science is Introductory Physics. There is an option however for students who have a high level of interest and achievement in science to take Honors Biology I. There are prerequisites to taking this course which include a grade 8 science grade of A- or better and a qualifying score on a placement exam. We will administer a science placement test to all grade 8 students. Grade eight students interested in participating in honors Biology I their freshman year at Medford High School must meet the qualifying score on this exam. The exam will be administered on April 29 and April 30. Students currently enrolled in Medford Public Schools grade 8 will take the exam during their regularly scheduled Science period over two days. The exam covers content from the Massachusetts Science & Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework, ©2006, for grades 6-8 in the following subject areas – Earth Science, Biology, Physical Sciences, and Technology/Engineering. The exam will be scored and results will be available to parent/guardians near the conclusion of the school year. Please direct questions to Mr. Rocco Cieri, Science Coordinator, at [email protected] or call 781-393-2314. Sincerely, Rocco Cieri
