epiphamy: i have been following a teaching practice and style that is counter to what kids really need. my class structures have been aimed at compliance, work ethics and end products. new focus, develop imagination, celebrate the journey and process of trying, take away to constraint of grades and traditional rigor in favor of enjoying the art of play. our society doesnt need more of the same teaching style in every class. i can support my colleagues by offering the space for students to release stress, imagine the impossible, and have fun in trying to make something that is truly theirs. my newest line of thinking is that imagination without constraints or fear will lead to critical thinking and discovery in a different way then highly structured and well behaved classes. why did it take me almost 3 years to arrive at this place? tried today in class, not a single poor behavior choice was made, every student was on task, and kids were smiling again. i love when they enjoy my class. :)
