finished watching the wire and felt that the first 3 seasons had impeccable writing, plot, drama, action, acting and characters. writing out mcnulty almost completely in season 4 and having a weak but interesting theme of redemption (it probably could have been a secondary arc) did not help the season at all - probably was the weakest of all 5, although colvins character portrayal was beautiful - probably my second favorite non-central character overall after frank sabotka in season 2 who is the most memorable character in all 5 seasons for me. what stood out through all the seasons was the dialogue which is a spectacular effort considering the wide array of character types ranging from cops, politicians, smooth-talking lawyers, addicts, corner kids, gangsters and drug kingpins. i would rate the first 3 seasons probably on par with the sopranos. the wire sized void will have to be filled by something else soon. probably boardwalk empire?
