had an intense, yet successful teaching afternoon, then a really beautiful Healing Presence Singers site visit to University Lutheran Church this evening. We had a lovely balanced ensemble of 12 and some really sensitive and expressive singing happened. Although not many folks from the homeless and HIV/AIDS community came in to experience this with us, those who were there were deeply moved and I met some incredible people afterwards - one who came up and asked me for a copy of the final song we sang, which she really loved - and we sang it together - an AMAZING alto voice! She is a Lutheran minister who, from what I can surmise, does a lot of work with the homeless community, and she gave me some great information on a church that meets in Logan Square on the 5th Sunday of every month, who might be a good group for whom to sing for/with in the future. (btw - our final selection was "How Could Anyone Ever Tell You You are Less Than Beautiful" - a very touching folk-y affirming song.) So deeply grateful for this work. I also know that this is so healing for we singers as well - like Reiki, I always tell them - when we give a "treatment" to another, we are giving that "treatment" to ourselves, as the vessels. So, as I say to so many of my singers in my life, "Be the vessel!!" :-)
