has no family history of stroke or high blood pressure but develped so-called "benign hypertension" between 2003, when I almoand st lost my job and health insurance in the midst of an opthalmological crisis and went into principled rebellion, and 2006, as I was teaching seven courses, advising half a dozen courses, and fighting for my livelihood and health insurance in a job jock situation, as I was being prepped for surgery in a vain attempt to save the vision in my right eye. My hypertension would seem to be an occupational hazard. My low vision is not. In my 2006 Student Life op-ed, "Student-Worker Alliance a Necessary Presence on Campus" J neglected to mention that I had never planned to participate in the 2005 living wage sit-in, though when offered the use of their power strip for my low vision reader when I was having trouble finding one so I could grade my papers, I crossed the threshold without hesitation. I had already made that decision two years before. We need MUCH better low vision advocacy here at Wash U, a school notorious for very poor disability advocacy and labor policies.
