he new bacterium -- provisionally named Bradyrhizobium enterica -- was confirmed as present in all three additional cord colitis cases at a single center, but in no healthy controls or patients with colon cancer or graft-versus- host disease, the researchers reported in the Aug. 8 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. "Association of these sequences with cord colitis suggests that B. enterica may be an opportunistic human pathogen," they suggested.
