hey guys, howz everything going ? I am writing this from my experience yesterday and wouldnt want anyone of you to go through this. Yesterday i transported two of my Gsds to my factory outside Dhaka. I have transported dogs before and i normally use a pick up for this and havent had any problems till yesterday. It was extremely hot outside and one of the GSDs suffered a heat stroke. The other one was fine. I am guessing Nut(10 month old male) was a little nervous with moving and the heat added to his anxiety and he suffered the heat stroke. He had a seizure and was extremely painful for him. As soon as i realized this is happening, we stopped the car and used more than 25 litres of cold water to bathe him. He cooled down slowly but was very weak, so we got him back inside the cabin. Because both this dogs are moderately big, i didnt put them inside the cabin which i should have done. It took him almost 5 hours and a force feeding of saline to be normal and up on his feet. In these five hours he vomitted twice and got extremely weak. But after using a mug and a joint effort by me and a caretaker where we had to open his mouth and put saline inside, he became ok. He later ate and now is doing fine. Now we all keep pets as per our capacity and space and a lot of times some of the dogs have to be put on the roof or in a balcony. We all do the best we can for our pets but we still need to remind ourselves from time to time the weather they are in. In this extreme heat, please make sure your pets are not in an open space for long with out a shade. Give them lots of water and bathe them. And god forbid if you still face heat stroke problems, instantly water the dog and talk to your vet. I was heart wrenching seeing Nut suffer. With a little precaution and care, lets help these amazing animals beat the heat. And while we are at it, drink lots of water too. The owner needs to be fit to take care of the dogs :) ... cheers.
