https://youtube/watch?v=9sbpIyKaLHc Venezuelan Masters Orchestra Watch out, brother, heres a pristine salsa explosion with percussionist Gerardo Rosales at its center. Its perhaps the best live salsa concert on CD this past year. This monster band can be considered the Venezuelan version of the highly regarded Descarga Boricua. It is brimming with jazzy salsa swing and extended descarga grooves - a third of the tracks are 10 minutes or longer, something generally unheard of these days. Rosales brought in trumpeters Michael Simon, Charlie Biggs and Jose Centeno, timbalero Alfredo Padilla, bongocero Joaquin Arteaga, bassist Lorenzo Barriendos, pianist Tomas Bottcher and many others. Terrific job by singers Nelson Arrieta, Maurico Silva, Cheo Valenzuela and Marcial Isturiz. There are a number of special guests, including veteran Johnny Sedes, timbale players Alfredo Padilla and Ralph Irizarry, percussionist Roberto Quintero, flautist Jeremy De Jesus and more. Need I say, Highly Recommended.
