https://youtube/watch?v=FaVjDUjvMCc “Panic in the Streets”: maybe the first epidemiological movie thriller, one of the favorite movies set in New Orleans, with a prominent role in preventing an epidemic played by the seventh uniformed service, the U.S. Public Health Service Commission Corps. Today’s controversies about CDC errors and the President appointing a coordinator that some are calling a “czar” to coordinate the response to and containment of ebola made me wonder why the U.S.Public Health Service’s officers and women andmen and the Surgeon General were not being used for that function, since that and application of quarantine powers are within the purpose for which that Corps was created. Turns out we don’t have a Surgeon General—the President’s nominee is among the scores of nominees to office that the Republicans are preventing from going to a vote on the Senate floor under the Senates ‘ power to advise and consent. Because fo Republican “politrix and substerfuge” we don’t’ have a Surgeon General in a time of trying to contain a deadly epidemic.
