https://youtube/watch?v=oXhCaVqB0x0 Thoughts of Ida: This is a Polish film made by Pawel Pawlikowski released earlier this year. Its also a beautiful film and one of the best of 2014. What I really like about how Pawlikowski makes this movie is what he decides to show and not show. He acknowledges that we cant know everything about whats going on these characters heads and lets us use your eyes and feelings to think about these people. The cinematography is done in gorgeous black and white and does something that The Kings Speech would often do where it puts the characters in the lower part of the frame. This has a nice way of creating space and emphasis how the characters are affected by the background. The two main performances by Agata Trzebuchowska and Agata Kulesza are wonderful as they both do a great job at giving subtle takes on their characters as well as emphasizing how two very different people are coming together. Ida is a fantastic movie that shows people that were affected by a tragic event in history even when its over and they didnt know they would be affected by it. This is a moving and stunning work of art and I really hope it wins the oscar for best foreign language film.
