i have had more energy the last several days. . .enough to create some pretty nice meals for gil and myself. after our vajrasattva practice (which I believe is responsible for my new-found energy) I made heart-shaped almond and blueberry pancakes for brunch. while preparing the meal, I looked out the kitchen windows. we are now hosts to a mixed flock of winter transients: the normal dark-eyed juncos, together with pink-sided juncos and a darker version with coal black heads. I think possibly the two species have interbred. they are accompanied with a couple of white crowned sparrows, some house finches, juniper titmice and a few spotted towhees. they are all so beautiful, flitting about between the whirling snowflakes that are coming down intermittently. the snow is sparse, but the temperatures are hovering in the mid-20s, so the snow stays once it hits the ground. the chickens prefer to stay inside their house and have their meals catered. the bees are snug in their hive. the doggies go out from time to time, but are spending more of the day inside now that cold weather has come. we bought a coat for sunny d, but whenever gil puts it on him, he takes it off! silly animal! the schipperkes have their dense double fur coats and are not bothered by the cold. krsna has begun to prefer to sit on me whenever he can---half a dozen times a day. gil is also experiencing more energy since we have enlarged our practice. he has completed quite a few tasks that needed doing and is planning some creative ones including building new bird houses. there is a pair of ravens that gil says are ours. they circle round the property and this morning they were in our front yard. one of the benefits of the practice is that we were busy doing it when the Jehovahs witnesses came calling. it was an auspicious day for hanging prayer flags also; and gil went out hung two swags of them on the porch where the witnesses had left their brochure, thinking that, perhaps they would ward them off. we dont talking with them, but they take up a lot of time. last night we had thai food created at home by the adventurous chef and her assistant: we marinated mahi mahi in an orange and spice mixture and then baked it with a rice, black bean, salsa and pineapple mixture: a lovely and quite tasty experiment. along with that, we had a cauliflower and green peas in a vindaloo-coconut milk sauce. there is enough for leftovers! and we still have another helping of our wild mushroom lasagna! gil liked that so much that he is contemplating growing some wild mushrooms in part of our studio (there are several closets) and selling them to local chefs! he has uploaded my photos from the past several months which, for some reason wasnt working for me . . . so I will be going through and posting some that seem interesting.
