i was just looking for things and i found that what we practice in our Khasi society is classed, as a "Matrilineal-Avunculate-Matrilocal" system. The last two parts in particular are what hurts us the most. . And for people who says that we are unique because of this system, here is a list: the Cherokee, Choctaw, Gitksan, Haida, Hopi, Iroquois, Lenape, Navajo, and Tlingit of North America; the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra, Indonesia and Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia; the Nairs of Kerala and the Bunts of Karnataka in south India; the Garos of Meghalaya in northeast India; the Mosuo of China; the Basques of Spain and France; the Akan including the Ashanti of west Africa; the Tuaregs of west and north Africa; and the Serer of Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania. ...and by the way, 4% of the entire world population currently follows this system (not to forget that in "ancient time" the figure was much higher).
