igg.me/p/kettle-completion-fund/x/5113664 The web series Kettle is not about romanticizing serial killers. The story centers on serial killers, as they are the extreme to the face that we hide in our daily lives. In KETTLE, there are no heroes. There is no true right or wrong. All of the characters live in shades of gray, just like we all do in real life. KETTLE seeks to escape the typical confines of current story telling. In most tales, you follow the journey of the hero. The reluctant hero who is drafted into some sort of quest; then meets the wise mentor, maybe gets a sidekick, faces various losses, alone faces defeat, and then rises to victory and walks off into the sunset with their prize. In television, we see stories like this condensed into an hour. The criminals do their deed, the investigators track them, capture them, and justice is served. We (the viewer) walk away feeling good, as if we were part of the hero’s journey. In real life, we show one face to the world, one face to our families and friends, but when we are alone, we show a face to ourselves that no one knows about. I am very sure there are many choices and things and you have made and done in life that you don’t dare share with anyone. We all wear masks and live in shades of gray, while using heroic tales to make us feel good around others. To help us feel accepted and to conform, because without these tales, and the fear of being swiftly caught and brought to justice by some “hero”, we would live in anarchy. Or would we? KETTLE will tell the stories of the extreme hidden face. Those who kill, and their motive of what they believe are right and just. It will also tell the stories of the victims who are sometimes not as innocent as they are portrayed to the public. The sad fact is that more crimes remain unsolved than solved, and that’s something the public needs to realize and see. Not the romantic version that everything will be fine within the hour. Many of us are currently upset at events in real life right now that we feel are unjust. There is rage and anger at certain verdicts and recent outcomes. The reason isn’t because of the outcome. It’s because we have been conditioned to believe that justice will always prevail, just like in the heroic stories we gleefully consume. People are now being forced to deal with reality. The reality that life does not always imitate art. The truth is that there is no firm right and wrong in every situation. There is good in evil, and evil in good. More goes unchecked than checked. You can and are being manipulated in real life and that is because of those formulistic heroic stories, set to put fear in you so you don’t stray and act out in public with your hidden face. The tales in KETTLE show that hidden face and the shades of gray, the shades and the consequences of certain choices in life.
