Greenwood County authorities seeking man, 35, in reported double homicide The man being sought in connection with the killing of two people and critical wounding of a third in rural Greenwood County on Wednesday night was facing a preliminary hearing later this month on multiple counts of kidnapping, aggravated assault and criminal threat. Kevin Robert Welsh, 35, of Toronto, Kan., has been identified as the suspect, the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has announced. He was in a vehicle described as a late-model gold-colored Ford Explorer with a veteran tag of 20AXY, and he should be considered armed and dangerous. Authorities have not released the names of the two people killed. The Eureka Herald is reporting that the third victim in the shooting is still in the hospital after being shot multiple times and sustained a shattered wrist and knee following a vehicle accident. Authorities said the surviving victim was flown to Wesley Medical Center by medical helicopter, but a hospital official would not give an updated condition report. The Greenwood County Attorney’s Office referred all calls to the Attorney General’s office. A woman who answered the phone at the county attorney’s office said Wednesday night’s shooting was connected to a criminal case in which Welsh is the defendant. Welsh faces numerous charges for an incident that occurred on Aug. 23, including three counts of kidnapping, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threat. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 29 in Greenwood County District Court. Bond in that case was set at $50,000, court records show, and Welsh posted bond on Sept. 3.
