Like Like Matero MP Miles Sampa seems to be making steady progress and could just pull a surprise at the PF convention in Kabwe. Sampa is one of the contenders to the PF presidency. Sampa’s advantage seems to be that he is meeting and campaigning to the right people: delegates. Sampa also seems to have the backing of Acting president Guy Scott. Over-confident contenders have been ignoring Sampa until Wednesday when they were given intelligence briefings that the younger man means business. Former first lady Christine Kaseba is said to unhappy with Scott for supporting Sampa. The Post newspaper wrote that Chawama PF officials have endorsed Sampa. PF Chawama Constituency top secretary for women Martha Nachilima said people were being paid to cause confusion in the constituency. She said residents of Chawama were now living in fear because of the abuse and harassment they were suffering at the hands of thugs for not supporting Lungu. “We do not hate Edgar Lungu but what we do not like is the people [being paid] to cause confusion in the party, and there are just too many lies in our party structures in Chawama,” said Nachilima, who was among other constituency officials who yesterday endorsed Matero member of parliament Miles Sampa as their preferred candidate for the PF in the January 20, 2015 presidential election. When asked why they were not supporting Lungu, who is their member of parliament, Nachilima said Sampa was disciplined and mature. Chawama Constituency officials, among other party members who were in the company of constituency chairman Robert Chikwelete and treasurer Lloyd Sampa, said Sampa was capable of taking over the presidential mantle from Michael Sata. But Lungu could not comment on the matter as his mobile phone was switched off by press time. At the same gathering, PF Kanyama Constituency chairperson Boniface Chansombwa said the entire constituency would rally behind Sampa, regardless of who he was contesting the presidency with. 17 people like this.
