my old gtx 260 cards idle at 27W each which is the first generation to implement any kind of power savings. Earlier video cards do not have any material power savings. my gtx 660 ti is much more recent and has a much more refined power consumption profile that makes it more energy efficient overall. the better power profile will help mitigate the governments desire to jack up electric rates by 28% over the next 5 years. it will also accelerate the payback in power savings.
