my opinion after some careful thought . . Reporting and commenting on the actions of a few is not being racist or bigoted. It is sharing factual information that needs to be discussed so solutions can be found. I agree that many of the opinions expressed on social media are grossly inappropriate and offensive and should not be condoned, but there are very real issues that NEED to be discussed and dangers that we need to be aware of. There is a glaringly obvious double standard when it comes to reporting or commenting on the actions of some groups when compared to others. Its ok, socially acceptable, and even considered admirable it seems at times, to wantonly ridicule and denigrate politicians or Catholic priests (for example) publicly to the nth degree! even in News Headlines (which are supposed to be objective), but the mere mention of the word Muslim or terrorist creates an uproar. There is a flurry of accusations, name calling, threats of legal action, even threats of violence in many cases when a reporter, a politician or other public figure, or even any member of the general public utters the slightest word of CAUTION about the negative consequences of indiscriminate acceptance of everything Islamic into western society. People who use these tactics are doing exactly what they are accusing others of doing, only worse! Who then is the bigot in such cases? Who is being intolerant? Granting favour and freedom of speech to some but not to others is not acceptable. For effective discussion all perspectives must be given equal right to expression, preferably in a calm and respectful manner, so that consensus can be reached.
