nI sent a friend request to an individual. I enjoy making contact with new people. She visited my page. After seeing recent posts she asked why I would want her for a friend since she thinks that she disagrees with me about almost everything. I thought it might be good to post my reply since I have a number of new friends. It will give you an idea of how I view things. A serious question: Are the only friends you have people who agree with you? That seems to be the way it is with most folk these days and I have to say that its very sad. I am not that way. Among my friends are many people who strongly disagree with me about most things. I spent most of my career in Hollywood. How many people do you think there are in that business who hold my views? I respect them and I think they respect me. That respect has been earned. I like to think that I am nobodys fool. I actually have some very good friends who are devout atheists. I have a few who probably are liberal to the point of being anarchists. Also among my friends there are people who are more conservative in every way than I am. I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat. Neither am I an Independent in the common understanding of the term. I am a Christian for very specific reasons but I dont fit well into stereotypes. I enjoy the interplay of ideas. Iron sharpens iron. I enjoy being challenged by those who strongly disagree, which happens rather frequently. I like the idea that people who would never meet can meet on my page and be civil with each other. Perhaps they might even become friends. My friends of all stripes are a tough group. Not only do I expect civility on my page, I expect rationality, which is hard to find on the Internet. Whatever position you hold, be prepared to defend it among people who respect you in their strong disagreement. Unfortunately, most people prefer to watch videos of cute puppies and kitties. So thats it. If you want only friends who agree with you, dont accept my request. As far as I am concerned if the only friends I had were people who agreed with me about everything, I wouldnt have any friends at all. But one way or the other, all the best to you. So thats how I view things. Lets sharpen our swords and strongly disagree as friends. All strong-minded people of good will are welcome here.
