nti-Amaechi lawmakers shun sitting of Rivers Commission of Inquiry on August 13, 2013 at 12:42 am in News BY JIMITOTA ONOYUME *Lawmaker moves to disband commission PORT HARCOURT — The five anti-Governor Rotimi Amaechi lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Monday, shunned the sitting of the Commission of Inquiry set up by the state government to investigate the recent fracas in the House of Assembly. Chairman of the Commission, Justice Biobele Georgewill, adjourned to Thursday after counsel to the Speaker of Assembly, Mr. Ken Atsuwete and counsel who represented the other 25 lawmakers pleaded for time extension to enable them put their documents in order. Justice Georgewill, who granted them 48 hours also called on parties in the crisis to be free to file their memoranda at the Commission, stressing that the Commission was merely on a fact finding mission. “No kobo needs to be paid to file your memo. Just do it with the Secretary of the Commission. Even if you don’t have a lawyer, the Commission will get a lawyer for you. “This Commission is for everybody affected by the crisis and anybody, who has one thing or the other to tell us. It is a fact finding commission. We are not here to imprison anybody. We are out to get to the root of the matter,” he said. Meantime, one of the five anti-Amaechi lawmakers, Mr. Victor Ihunwo, representing Port Harcourt constituency III, yesterday, approached the state High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, seeking among others, to stop the Commission from going ahead with its activities.
