ok. Im taking 5 minutes right now to think through as many things as possible that Im thankful for. I was stirred up to do this by listening to someone sharing the Scriptures about being thankful ultimately for Christ. ps 16:11 ...in your presence is fullness of joy at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore... 1 Thess 5:18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Typing that just took up 1 minute. Im thankful most of all for JESUS and His Great love and grace that is continually lavished on me. Im thankful that The Lord saw fit to allow circumstances into my life that caused me to Read the Scriptures and ultimately opened my eyes to the Gospel of Christ;.... that While I was a sinner, ungodly, an enemy of God and without strength, Jesus in great love to my soul, died for my sins, was buried and the third day rose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He has given me every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ, adopted me, counted me righteous, given me Himself...the spirit of Christ is IN ME! I know how to read and write by the grace of God; and can read the Scriptures for myself in my own language. I have ability to speak to tell others of the GOOD NEWS of Jesus. I have a wonderful family who loves me dearly, great loving friends, and a caring Church family. I have, clothes and basic necessities of life. I have a place to live that Im not ashamed to be hospitable and invite friends and others over for food and feasting on Gods Word, fellowship; and Bible study together. I have been given 28 years so far by God and 7-8 years that Ive had to know Jesus and make Him known. Im thankful to be able to enjoy the outdoors where I live in crystal springs, where I work and when visiting my parents or hunting (in the country/rural MS). This is a short snippet starter list but as I type this list out I can see plainly SO MANY REASONS to Give God Thanks! so far Ive taken up about 10 minutes typing this so Ill suffice it to say that I have MANY REASONS TO GIVE THANKS! Here are a few additional Scriptures to stir your heart to truly give Thanks this Thanksgiving! This is very helpful to me to be intentional about Giving Thanks..... Php 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Psa 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. Heb 13:15 By him (Jesus ) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Isa 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments. (Hab 3:17-19) alway....ever ...continually ..... These are the circumstances we are to give Thanks to God in. in everything, but this isnt a cold Thanks to God with no feeling or joy; but according to these Scriptures it is a shout for joy GREATLY rejoicing in the Lord for what He has done for us IN JESUS CHRIST! Jesus Defends all those who believe in Him, clothes them in a robe of righteousness, keep them righteous, Has clothed them with garments of Salvation....these are just a few things in a few verses of the Bible. I pray this would stir many to give thanks to God today for what He had done for you in Jesus Christ. I realize that many are going through tough times...suffering..etc... and it is not automatic to give thanks, but when remembering Gods Love, Mercy, who He is.... it is a great help to stir our hearts to give Him the glory due to His name. we will always praise something or someone; and righfully, for many reasons, it ought to be God Alone Whom we praise. 2 passages that come to mind of great rejoicing in Christ in the midst of suffering that is very rich: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: (1Pe 1:3-8) And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD: Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORDS mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. (Lam 3:18-26) As a sidenote, the great things about all this is that I set out to be intentional to write for 5 minutes of why Im thankful to God and so far Ive spent a total of about 30minutes at least looking up verses...etc.... Once you start seeing reasons to Praise God, He may show you more reasons to keep praising Him :)
