There are so many who are rather patriotic for their own benefit and fanatic for the sake of personal approval. Nigerians are rather not patriotic or fanatic as regards our own “stuff” in comparison with things neither produced nor distributed by us. This has largely been due to lack of trust and honesty on both sides involved and resultedly we undermine our potentials. My building plan is based on the aspect of our production. We usually would rather appreciate goods of external production rather than ours, we prefer goods said to be imported than personally produced goods back home. My building plan is enlarged on our very own Aba made products. I personally accept the fact that there are products made in Aba that are below quality and standard to the extent of bringing about low self- esteem among peers who “claim” to have on them imported wears. This all is a result of not appreciating our very own thing. Is there any good in us? This same question was asked in the scriptures: “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Something good did come and of course there are “goods” in us just if we look within to see them for what they really are. There are solid things made here back at “home” that are better by far in comparison with those made outside the “home”. Integrity indeed has been lost due to wanting to do same as the brands abroad but I stand to say that if we look into ourselves and appreciate our own things, we then will develop our products and make them brands to be exported, brands of international reputation. My building plan is about positioning myself as the director of production in Aba market. No inferior goods would be produced and products would be branded not necessarily with someone’s name as the registered trade mark, knowing fully well that the rate of acceptability will be low but branding with a nickname or an acronym with international appeal. The error done in Aba which is the replacement of e.g “Timbercland” for “timberland” for the sake of quick acceptance when in actual sense that product is solid would be corrected if we just accept our products and bring out the best in us. In this vein, integrity would be protected by not reducing quality but also making these products affordable per class of persons. There is no gainsaying the fact that trade is crucial to the economy of a nation. My belief is that looking inwards to promote our own goods and services by setting the required standard would be a step in the right direction as we aim towards the Nigeria of our dreams.
