resilience.org/stories/2014-08-21/the-permaculture-fail Thought provoking; sustainability has to include life as well as a living for the farmer. You WILL NOT get the Best and brightest making our food -responsibly- this way. Time to shift the paradigm. Farmers need your help now. That I have worked this hard for this long for this little is not proof of sustainability; at some point I am a fool. As more farmers figure this out - are we winning? The competitive issues - oh yeah - frustrating to compete with hobbyists who arent making a living from their farming and those farmers that havent even figured out what their costs are yet. I think it grand they are farming, but not doing the good they think they are. All comes back to the sophistication, knowledge and goals of the consumer. Do you just want the thing right now, or is it important that thing be here a year, ten years, a hundred years from now? Not the way our culture thinks, is it? Somebody else is responsible for that - which could be guys like me - but whos the somebody supporting us? It is quite an industry taking pie-eyed farming romantics and separating them from every dime theyve saved and can borrow - consultants - equipment - all to find out how much work and how little actual reward there is. Not sustainable. But good for business. Does it have to be that way? Lets talk about it - Saturday August 23rd 1-4pm at Trautman Family Farm.
